Internal urethrotomy (Sachse method)

This is the inner slitting of the urethral stricture under direct vision. The best results are achieved for short-segment strictures. In the case of long-segment strictures, the disease tends to recur.

The procedure is performed with a cystoscope under direct vision. The stricture is expanded with a small scalpel; anaesthesia is required. After surgery, an indwelling catheter remains for several days.
