Urethral stricture

The narrowing of the urethra (urethral stricture) causes symptoms similar to those of an enlarged prostate. The main symptoms are a weakened or very thin stream of urine, which may strew in all directions.

The urination is often massively extended and there is often residual urine. Urethral strictures usually occur following inflammation, injury to the urethra, or catheterisation of the bladder. In rare cases, these can be congenital (urethral valves).
